Card Party Social
January 27 at 1:00. Come to Poplar Hill Mansion for a Card Game Social on January 27, 2018 from 1:00-3:00. Do you like card games? Have you ever wanted to learn how to play card games? We’ll being playing popular games like Bridge, Hearts, Gin Rummy, Whist, & more! This fun new event will feature card games played throughout the historic first floor rooms of the Mansion. Poplar hill mansion will provided the cards and tea. The event is free, but donations are welcome with all proceeds go towards the preservation of Salisbury’s Oldest House, Poplar Hill Mansion, a 501(c)-3. Limited seating with RSVP required. Music at the Mansion Series – Canzona Diversa
February 11th at 1:00. Come to Poplar Hill Mansion to hear 19th Century period music from Canzona Versa, a consort consiting of local Salisbury musicians playing on instruments like those used during the time of Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, and Schubert. Included in the performance will be music played on our beautiful Joshua Thurston Pianoforte. Through the generous contributions of supporters throughout our community, PHM was able to have the 1810 Pianoforte restored to playable condition. This FREE reception is part of our Music at the Mansion Series. Please note that this is not a formal concert. The consort will be playing in the Parlor of the Mansion and limited seating will be available in other rooms of the Mansion. This event is made possible through a generous grant from the Salisbury Wicomico Arts Council.
Music at the Mansion Series – Celtic Celebration
March 11th at 1:00. Come celebrate St. Patrick’s Day at Poplar Hill Mansion with Celtic music from special live musical guests Mickey Justice and Mike O’Loughlin playing some of your favorite acoustic Irish music. This FREE reception is part of our Music at the Mansion Series. Please note that this is not a formal concert. Limited seating will be available in the Mansion. Music at the Mansion Series – Mother’s Day Tea Reception
May 12th at 1:00. Come celebrate Mom at our Mother’s Day Tea Reception. Bring your mom or children to this fun event! Live music featuring Judy Willing, Becky Joseph, and Bill Alexander playing some of Mom’s favorites from popular artists of the mid 20th Century. This FREE reception is part of our Music at the Mansion Series. Please note that this is not a formal concert. Limited seating will be available in the Mansion. Light refreshments and tea will be served. This event is made possible through a generous grant from the Salisbury Wicomico Arts Council.
Poplar Hill Mansion Festival: Celebrating Over 200 Years of Salisbury History
June 23 from 10:00-4:00. Come to a brand new festival at Poplar Hill Mansion as we celebrate the Federal Period history of Salisbury! The day long festival will include War of 1812 re-enactors, spinning demonstrations, music and dancing of the Federal period, a silhouette artist, and 4-H crafts and demonstrations. There will also be a tented Market Square with vendors selling and/or demonstrating arts and trades reminiscent of the Federal Period. Food trucks will be available. Also join community leaders and elected officials in helping raise money for the Friends of Poplar Hill Mansion as they scramble to raise money to be kept from having to go into the stocks! It’s sure to be a fun filled day! Tours of Poplar Hill Mansion will also be available throughout the day and volunteers will be wearing period dress. This is a FREE event with parking located in the Bethesda Methodist Church parking lot on the corner of Division St. and Isabella St. in the Newtown Neighborhood. This event is made possible through generous grants from the Lower Eastern Shore Heritage Council and the Salisbury Wicomico Arts Council. Sponsorship opportunities are available.
October 26th at 8:00. Come to one of our most popular events of the year! Spend Halloween weekend in a real haunted house for a fun filled party at Poplar Hill Mansion! Wear costumes, see the house fully decorated in creepy elegance, enjoy some sweet treats and punch, and take part in some of our activities throughout the night, including games, palm-reading, and storytelling from Andy Nunez, paranormal expert extraordinaire and author of the Ghosts of the Eastern Shore series. Prizes for Best Costume. Suggested donation of $5.00 per person at the door. No RSVP required.
YULETIDE OPEN HOUSE
December 2nd from 1:00-4:00. Come see the Mansion fully decorated for the holiday season at this favorite annual event. The first floor features beautiful greenery, flowers, and arrangements from the Four Seasons Garden Club, who spend months preparing and planning for this yearly tradition and never disappoint! The second floor features a Christmas tree with over 1,500 ornaments, Christmas village, and our Nutcracker Nursery. Enjoy holiday music from harpist Kara Dahl Russell and light refreshments. Free event, donations welcomed. Please also consider bringing canned goods and non-perishable foods for Joseph House.
TEA WITH SANTA AND MRS. CLAUS – CANCELLED DUE TO SNOW
December 8th from 1:00-4:00. Why go wait in line at the mall to see Santa, when he will be at Poplar Hill Mansion! Bring your children or grandchildren to have peppermint tea, punch, and assorted sweets and have a visit and picture taken with Santa and Mrs. Claus. Photos mailed to your home address. See the house fully decorated for the Holiday Season. Cost: $5.00 per mailing address.
